My Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy centers on instilling a sense of passion and reverence for the field of marketing by moving beyond theory and focusing on real-world applications. I do this by building a strong classroom community, creating interactive learning environments, and focusing on hands-on applications of theory. I believe that students learn best when they are engaged, respected, and challenged to see marketing not just as a set of tools, but as a lens through which to view the world. Looking ahead, I am excited to return to teaching at UConn in Spring 2026. I have a particular interest in teaching Consumer Behavior, Marketing Strategy, and Digital Marketing. I also look forward to contributing to curriculum development and new course design at both the undergraduate and MBA levels.
Student Testimonials

"This was by far my favorite class this year. I actually wanted to go to class because I really enjoyed professor Roy's teaching style. He really connects with his students, and gives a lot of opportunities to do well. He wants all of his students to do their best, but also learn and retain the information so it's useful in our lives. He genuinely cared about his students and he created a strong sense of community within the classroom. I can't say enough good things about him but I loved this class!"

"I thought the lectures were very interesting. I especially liked how the professor did not simply read off the slides, rather he provided examples of the concept we were learning about, which definitely allowed me to better understand different concepts that might've been confusing."

"Professor Roy was clearly very passionate about marketing and worked hard to generate interest in the subject by students. It was easy to get in contact with him via email or before/after class if you had questions/concerns. He was very approachable and seemed to really understand the stresses that we as students experience."

"– the book reading before class made the class time SUPER effective and made me really absorb the material rather than having it just said to me. – i have NEVER learned more in a class. – i think he made it a very open environment for everyone’s ideas to be heard and never said someone’s ideas were bad. i hate talking in class because i’m super anxious but i still tried my best to participate because he made it such a great environment. favorite professor i’ve ever had for sure!"
